Former Union home and finance minister P Chidambaram was arrested by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) following a night of high-voltage drama that saw CBI officials climbing dividers to enter Chidambaram’s home. Chidambaram was arrested in the INX Media case, in which he has been accused of tax misusing, wrongdoing and money laundering the post of finance minister.
Chidambaram’s son, Karti, supposedly utilized his dad’s impact as a Union minister in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government in 2007 to impact approval for Rs 305-crore foreign investment in INX Media.
Chidambaram was formally arrested at the CBI base camp after being arrested from his Jor Bagh home. He will be kept at the CBI headquarters today around evening time and will likely be delivered at CBI Rouse Avenue court on Thursday morning.
Earlier, Chidambaram, who had not been found out in the open since Tuesday evening, made a dramatic appearance at the Congress headquarters and asked test agencies to “regard” the law and hold up till Friday when the Supreme Court should hear his between time bail plea.
Karti was captured on February 28, 2018, by the CBI on his arrival from the United Kingdom.
He was allowed interim protection from arrest in the money laundering by the Delhi High Court on March 9, 2018, which was later extended by the apex court on March 14, 2018, the help which has been reached out every once in a while.
